A tense operational situation has been created on the Armenian-Iranian state border. FSS Border Guard Department of Russia |1lurer.am|

Recently, a tense operational situation has been created in the area of the Armenian-Iranian state border, which is caused by the increase in attempts to illegally transport narcotics and psychoactive substances (hashish, methamphetamine, heroin) from Iran to Armenia. This was reported by the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in Armenia.

It is noted that in addition, cases of violations of the state border of Armenia by representatives of extremist and terrorist organizations are recorded. In 2021 Russian border guards arrested two militants with weapons, grenade launchers and a large amount of ammunition illegally entered from Iran in the area of the Meghri border guard detachment.

"In order to ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Armenia about the state border, in agreement with the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the National Security Service and other competent bodies, a number of equipped positions for the implementation of the border control service have been formed since the beginning of this year (and search for border violators and in the case of the prosecution, without exception) to carry out measures against persons and vehicles in order to detect, prevent and disrupt the facts of smuggling, illegal migration and other offenses. We ask the citizens moving in the border zone to understand the legal requirements of law enforcement agencies,"  the border guard department of the FSS of Russia in Armenia reports.

In the Republic of Armenia, the Border Guard Department of the Russian FSS carries out the protection of the state border of Armenia with the Republic of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the basis of the interstate agreement "On the Status of the Border Guard Troops of the Russian Federation Stationed in the Territory of the Republic of Armenia and the Conditions of Their Activity", which was signed between the two countries in 1992.
